Mobile, networked devices are a cornerstone of the Internet of Things (IoT). This results in increasingly diverse ways of exchanging data between individual devices via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or ZigBee and the cloud. Especially for medical applications, this can be very beneficial

by Winfried Pröhl, CEO of AmZetta Technologies International GmbH.

If diagnostic devices can transmit their readings or images directly to other devices, the exchange of information designed not only better, but also anywhere - way within the hospital accounts, consultations with external specialists can be done quickly and inexpensively, the communication between hospital and GP may intensify etc. BOLT

With its new product "BOLT" American Megatrends International (AMI) has brought together its expertise in medical software and its expertise in hardware and firmware in the character of the Internet of Things.

BOLT consists of wearable hardware and an app for Android, iOS and Windows. The hardware package includes sensors for measurements on the human body - hence "wearable" - and a router, which transmits the measured data to any (portable) device on which the app is installed.

After data for days have been measured, this app from the calendrical or represented by a curve (Figure 3 and 4). These long-term data, how developed the health of a patient.

The collected data can be stored by private users locally on your device, for professional use in hospitals and home care, the encrypted storage is supported in a cloud.

Objective of the private use of such smartphone apps is to strengthen the health awareness and the motivation to take steps to improve the health status. For this field of application expressed during the presentation of the product at MEDICA in 2014 not least insurance circles keen interest. Studies have shown that 72 percent of patients with high blood pressure that consistently kept under control, as long as they carried out regular measurements.

BOLT makes daily measurement more convenient and faster than previous solutions. This technology contributes to the fight against cardiovascular disease, the world's number one killer. The measurement of blood oxygen levels also are evidence of diseases such as asthma and sleep apnea.

Via the Internet, the measured information on caring relative, nurses or the doctor can be forwarded. The evaluation over a longer period using BOLT allows the physician a much more accurate diagnosis and early detection of diseases. These data position is made possible because patients can wherever they are physicians communicate the information within this application. Even with regular, for example weekly doctor visits only snapshots of vital functions would be possible. This usually can not be diagnosed any disagreement.

Not only hospitals and patient care facilities, but also home care services can gain time by such an app, because the patient simple but can make important measurements independently. The service personnel can concentrate on their core tasks nursing then more. Given the usually thin staffing levels in medical and geriatric care, this can contribute to quality improvement.
